A unique hands-on event dedicated to the importance of the research stage within the documentary film. Led by Dalia Karpel, a leading research expert and filmmaker, this workshop would utilize real life stories of personalities to explore the basic issues of the research stage. It would answer questions regarding methods of interviewing, techniques of transforming a mass of information into a coherent film language and consolidating the most important element- the story.
The workshop takes place in the Galilee region and would utilize the village of Tarshiha as its center of activity- an Arab village known for its beauty as well as its unsettling history during the 1948 aftermath. The village has turned into a unique multicultural environment and is now united with a Jewish municipality, an unprecedented first.
In his Masterclass, acclaimed British filmmaker Marc Isaacs deconstructs his particular approach to the documentary form, discussing notions of documentary ‘truth’ and how to re-imagine reality. From his first film set entirely within an elevator to his latest set on a London road inhabited by immigrants, Isaac’s films are innovative and full of intimacy and are largely concerned with society’s ‘outsiders’ and a changing London. Marc reveals what it is about these characters and themes that he is drawn too, how he achieves a high level of trust with them and how he treats the construction of their stories.
